Likeness??

I was pretty happy with this drawing. This is the same guy I've done drawings of recently.

Sunday Oil #5 - 8" x 10"

Here is my fifth Sunday painting from members only Sunday at the Palette and Chisel. Having done a few alla prima still lifes since my last figure painting I was inspired to modify my usual adaptation of what I learned in Andy Conklin's class and began with the more complete palette (though still quite limited) and skipped the dead coloring step. Since I forgot my palette knife, I had to mix my paints with brushes, thus the paint in many areas was too thinly applied. My angle to the light coming off my canvas dealt me a glare on most of my preferred brushstrokes. The likeness is way off, but such are my hurried drawings and paintings. I want to attempt a second layer on this painting even though I am scared to ruin it not having the model there to guide me. But, I have some very specific things that I want to address, so I will be brave (but not until it is dry of course).

Alla Prima in 4 hours 8"X10"

This is another recent attempt at an alla prima painting. The oil can and the garlic clove feel somewhat real to me, but the fruits seem awkward. I timed this painting at 4 hours from setting up my palette to cleaning my brushes. The background lacks variation, which in hindsight, it probably suffers from. I'm sure I'll be doing more like this sometime soon.

Staying At It

Even when the world takes over, time must be made for my real work.

Some Drawings from June

I've been busy with other things lately, but here are a few I've managed to squeeze in. They don't convey a very good likeness of this man, but I think they represent an advancement in my ability to render shading in the two different mediums.
